Try to sandwich in a hunting post..

Haven't posted any 'coon pics - because, like squirrel pics, after about a hunerd they all look the same.. It's over now as of last week. We're going to miss it. This was our last day. Saw a total of 17 - killed 8 - two had bad rubs.

If you turn a dog loose to hunt – you’d better to be ready to deal with what he trees.

Some buddies and I went over to the MS River, inside the levees, yesterday....killed some "squirrel limits"---'nuf said about that ....Sandy stole the show, over two other dogs....but, she did tree a coon, to start the hunt....killed him, and threw him in the river, so she wouldn't go back to him....sorry, no pics, too day'um tired, after walking about 4 miles thru those swamps....like Hide said, "seen one pic, you've seen 'em all."

lol.. There's a couple there big enough to make a cap, Barry. The two on the right will probably go 4X - one maybe 5X. Dang shame they aren't worth anything. They'd have brought $40+ back in the 70s.

Sure wish you were closer, eddie. I'd love to hunt with that little dog..

Me, too, Hide....we'd have a blast !!!....yesterday, those ironwood swamps really wore her out....she didn't get up until about 9 am, and was pretty stiff-legged....I gave her half an Advil, and now she's good to go.

Great pics, Hide....your pics are always so neat....I just haven't got your touch with pics.

HH, great photo. I know what you mean about see one seen them all. I'm kinda the same way about coyotes. However I love seeing everyone of your raccoon pics. We just don't get into them like that over here so it's always interesting to me.

That is cool. You always make some good photos. You should have one of those coons doing the Bucky pose

Gene, is there a particular time of year that racoon is more tasty or not? Did you keep any of these for the table?

I dress two or three a year. The young ones are always best. I fry them up brown and throw them in the Dutch Oven like squirrels or rabbits (or chicken) . You can boil the old ones - "pull" them and they make pretty good sandwiches with some bbq sauce. You need to really trim the fat or they tend to be greasy.

airbud.. Fur prices are an interesting thing. "Animal rights" doesn't help and definitely has some bearing on the market. But, two of the biggest buyers of Midwest fur are Greece and Russia. They have no money right now. China is our other big buyer.. and they are volatile. Skyz" fancy "western" coyotes and bobcats hold up better because they are overall nicer fur and go for trim on high-end coats.
