One of my Uncles passed away yesterday at 98. He served in the Army during WWII having enlisted actually before the war started. He saw combat in both New Guinea and during the retaking of the Philippines.
After the war he went to work for the railroad and after his retirement from there he became the Postmaster in the town I grew up in.

Sorry for your loss deputy. Sounds like he lived a long and interesting life. I'd agree with "greatest generation" this generation has so much to be proud of and so much we could learn from.
That truly is the greatest generation we have known.

Sorry to hear that Deppity ... but it sounds like he had a good life and really contributed to the world. I've always wondered how things would go today if the circumstances were similar. Rationing, no new car sales, every piece of metal possible going to the recycle bin, women working in the factories while the men went to war, all the factories in the country switching over to war production, etc, etc. For some reason, I just can't imagine the snowflakes in this country making the necessary sacrifices, much less contributing to the common cause. I seriously doubt we'll ever have a NEW "greatest generation".

I was at Fort Fisher on the coast yesterday. It was also active during both world wars. I commented to my buddy how that generation was the greatest. They saw things and did things the kids today cannot imagine.
