Thumbs up from a first time user!

We arrived in LA this morning. Normally, Lynn's mom picks us up at the airport, but she's now in her 80's (a VERY young 80's) and is a bit more nervous driving the freeways than she used to be. Plus, she has a touch of "night-blindness", so if arriving on a late flight, we always take a cab to her house.

This trip, although we arrived around 9:30 am (local time), we told her not to bother picking us up and we'd just see her at the house. We then decided to try Uber ... and it turned out to be about a 120% excellent experience! We called from baggage claim and the driver arrived 6 minutes later. For now, I'm saying good-bye to "Yellow Cab" and hello to Uber. I can't say enough good about the experience, PLUS, they gave us an introductory discount for our ride and the fare turned out to be $3.00! (Plus I tipped the driver). If you haven't tried Uber yet, I give it a 2-thumbs up for now.

BTW, we compared the rates for a taxi and Uber's (undiscounted) full fare would have been less. At this point, I can't say one thing negative about our first experience with them.

I pretty much use Uber or Lyft 100% of the time when I travel. It's an order of magnitudes better than taking a cab.

I've used it a bunch. Only had one experience where the dude was lost and clearly out of his element and Uber refunded our money within an hour.
If we all threw our problems in a pile, and you saw everyone else's problems-- you'd take yours back.

Uber was/is a great idea wish I would have thought of it or at least bought some stock. the 38 year old owner is worth already $6.3 Billion.

Same here. It's my first choice over a cab.

I used a bootleg cab in St Louis once a long time ago before uber. I got his pager number and he'd meet me any time I needed a ride when i was there on business at about half the price of cabs. People told me i was crazy for riding with an unlicensed cab. Now, its all the rage.
I primed the pump for uber.

Yeppers, I have the same arrangement in Northern Thailand as well as Bangkok. I don't bother them with routine rides, but call them if I want to do a longer trip.

I didn't ride on a rickshaw in Manila, but I did ride in a jeepney. Talk abput your basic clown car experience! Those weren't made for people of my size.

Oh boy, you're bringing back some fun memories. I spent quite a bit of time in the Philippines and had a blast! Come to think of it, I may have a few kids running around over there.

You mean great grandchildren running around. Your "youngins"'would already be old enough that most of them are using walkers...

I'm more of a tuk tuk guy than a rickshaw.

Yeppers CD, I take tuk-tuks 'bout everywhere I go when there. I did have a "personal" samlar driver who camped outside my bungalow and was almost always there to take me on short trips.
