    Another season gone..

Today wraps up another furbearer season in Iowa.. Managed to call a few 'coons. Every year, after deer season, I put out a handful of snares.... More just "something to do" than anything else. Picked up a couple coyotes earlier (not as pretty as Skyz' - ours are reddish and "grizzled").. Yesterday this old boy run afoul of one of my sets. He wasn't happy. 32#... probably saved some turkeys and fawns..

fawns and turkeys .. This is the biggest one I've caught, but a buddy trapped one that weighed 41 (verified by DNR) last year. I'm betting a 40 pounder could take down a full grown deer.

Y’all have enough gophers to feed a lot of cats too.

I live in the NE part of the state and Texoma is on our southern border, about three hours away. I’ve fished Texoma, but not for catfish. From what I’ve heard over the years, they have a helluva catfish fishery there. There are a ton of guides and fish camps on the Oklahoma side. I’ve stayed in the Kingston area before. Stripers seem to be the main quarry for outfitters from what I’ve seen. And they catch some gigantic old prehistoric aligator gar in the Red River arm of the lake.
Its abig lake with a lot of opportunities for about anythingyou want, freshwater wise. I think our state record smallie might be out of Texoma.

And just so ya know, you are always welcome at my place if you need a place to stage, shit, shower, shave, or otherwise just sit and visit over brown liquor. We’ve been known to put on a pretty good feed now and then too. Though it might not be varmints in the stew it is still edible. We might even talk birddog into letting us hit a coal pit or two. Or three. Or ten.

We’ll keep the light on for ya anyways.

Is there a way to "age" a cat like that? Tooth wear maybe? Anybody know?

That is a WAY cool picture and an awesome catch.

We have bobcats here in ND, but they are mostly in the badlands located in the SW corner of the state. I've seen tracks a couple of times in one of the river valleys I hunt but have never seen one in person. Even back when I was growing up and trapping in the eastern 1/3 of the state I never heard of a single bobcat being seen or trapped.

They look like a pretty neat critter.

BBP - I've heard that they occasionally show up in the Turtle Mountains along the Canadian border, but I think they are even more rare. Pretty sure we have more mountain lions in the state than we do lynx.

We’ve got a few in my area, but they are still protected in Indiana because of the low numbers.
