    Graduation gift?

So my oldest graduates from college in a month so my wife and I are trying to find a cool graduation present for him that won't break the bank but haven't come up with any WOW-type of ideas. Any thoughts from the peanut gallery as to a cool keepsake sort of gift?

FYI - I fully realize that I should have started on this LONG ago.

I got my daughters very nice necklaces that show a compass. That may be a little on the gay side for your boy

My oldest also needed an Apple laptop badly so I got her a macbook. That's what made her cry.

Girls... what are you gonna do?

My high school graduation present from my parents was an Anschutz .22 rifle with a 4X Leupold scope that I’ve used ever since to squirrel hunt.

Mine was the low-buck, practical stuff. Since I was leaving home for college, my parents gave me a new Samsonite suitcase to pack my shit in. My grandparents gave me a new typewriter for my term papers, etc.

Then there was my rich buddy ... his parents gave him a brand, spankin' new Pontiac GTO!

That sounds more like the Avon crap my Mom used to give me.

That sure was a quick 4 years, I think college years are the fastest school years when you think back.
We gave all of them IOU's.
All three made it through all four years without any student loans, so they were dept free.
The oldest wanted to do his Student Teaching in Perth Australia so we paid half and he took out a Student Loan for his half.
Middle son and a buddy wanted to bum around Europe for 6 weeks after graduation , so we paid half and a Student Loan paid the other half.
Youngest went through 5 years of College on a full ride BB scholarship, in his Junior year bought him a new
Jeep Wrangler (cheapest of all three), between this Freshman and Sophomore he went to Australia and spent the summer with the family his older brother stayed with, we footed that bill too.
Now this all took place 20+ years ago.
Suggestion, nice quality watch, maybe engrave it on the back. I know, nobody wears a watch, they have their cell phones or Ipads, but there are times you want to know the time without pulling out those things out.
A good watch will last a life time, if well taken care of.

The older I get, the better I was. I also forget my password and have to have Len reset it for me

Dang JB ... you're older than I thought. Remind me ... what's a watch? It rings a bell, I just can't remember right now.

    Thanks for the ideas folks.

One thing I KNOW he wants is a Colt 1911 but I'm finding out they don't give those things away either.

I don’t know why but I didn’t think of a gun. I got a 30.06 for my 18th birthday from one of my uncles. I cherish it to this day. A gun might be a good idea!

What did he major in? Is there something career related that would be significant?

Good thinking CD. He majored in Digital Animation & Production which is WAY outside my wheelhouse when it comes to knowing just what he might need, but that is a GREAT idea.

Trav, if you are serious, let me know what you've got. Feel free to PM me, text me, or send an email if you prefer.

Portfolios are still a thing but I think most of that stuff is carried around and presented in an electronic format, but yet another good idea from the gent from Occupied Virginia!
