    Weekend Plans 4/28

I’m headed down to my stomping grounds to attend a workshop about a naturalist that came to Oklahoma 199 years ago. oughta be innersting. So I guess if anyone asks, I’m botanizing tomorrow.

Right now I just got cleaned up from a hard day of old man chores, so I’m having a few Ballast Point Kolsch’s and gonna cook a steak here in a bit. Tonight it Cardinals-Pirates, although its still weird to me to think of Pittsburgh without Kutch.

Sunday, I think I’ll take the day off and bask. Like a red eared slider on a log.

Sounds like a right good time! If the river’s not too high, I’m hoping to chase some shad.

When I think of chasing shad, I think of chunking a chrome Skipjack and chasing them around the lake with the bass exploding all up in the school. When they submerge, I pick up a rod with a silver Rattletrap

kilt a lot of bass when they're in the shad

This is our spring run of American and Hickory shad. Think of an anadromous 3-8 pound mini-tarpon.

    They are amazing to catch.
Bucky called me stupid once because I posted about fishing for them.
He said it was stupid to Fish for something you could not eat.
I told him if he ever did it he would enjoy it.

Which brings the question I've asked myself before , if you had to make a choice of either catching fish and never eating fish again or, being able to eat fish but never go fishing again, which would it be?

    What say ye?

That’s easy. While I like to eat fish, I’d rather catch them anydamnway!

Not even close for me. I’d be on catching them all the way. If I never eat another one that’s fine.

Same here. Love fishing and catching but never really cared to eat fish all that much. I'd make an exception for some nice, fresh walleye or perch fillets, however.

I really love to fish. I also really love to eat fish, prefer it over beef or pork. It's such a close toss up that I have to give it a definitive yes. Um, no. Maybe.

    What was the question again?

I went and got skunked on the bay again. Rockfish aren't really in gear yet. Then shot a photo gig saturday night. Long ass hike with 2400 feet of elevation gain early this morning and now my ass is firmly planted on the couch trying to figure out what the hell I'm gonna say on my first post-divorce date tomorrow after work. I may just throw up and cancel
