I agree Posty. But..... I think the diagnosis is about 40 years too late. The Supreme Court is terribly politicized already. And so you have the ridiculous Kabuki theater of pretending to not vote based on political leaning all the while doing exactly that. Both sides. For decades.

As for the OP? I have said it a hundred times and I'll say it again: You cannot accurately assess our problems in a right/left, conservative/liberal framework. The rise of populism we've seen on both sides of the aisle can only be explained by looking at what both right and left have agreed on. And then looking at the consequences of these long standing policies. Globalism? Free-trade? Mass immigration?

These explosive but ignored issues are driving the bus now. And right and left have acted lock step in stifling any input from the citizenry on them for decades.

If you squint your eyes and try not to focus too hard you can see how the political parties are being reshaped. And it isn't "conservative/liberal". It is more of a socialist lite versus nationalist/populist realignment. The two sides have a lot in common and at this point the biggest difference between the two looks to be mass immigration. But that might change. It is an explosive issue and trying to get the right balance of adding good people to our ranks without loading economic hardship on one group or the other because of it is a tough, but not unsolvable puzzle.
