    Opening day

Today was our firearms opener for deer. I took my 8-year old son out for the first time. He was just a tag-along and didn’t take a gun yet. This was kind of a feeling him out trip to see how well he did.

He did an awesome job. Handled the cold and sat still.

I normally wouldn’t shoot a doe on opening morning but he was too excited at the possibility of getting a deer that I couldn’t pass it up.

I guess I need to invest in some camo for him now. Looks like I’m going to have a partner with me from now on. COOL!

I told him that if he would have shot it, I would “blood” him to initiate him into the “hunting clan”. I could tell by the look on his face that he wanted me to do it anyway. He told me he should have it done since he was with me when I shot it.

I don't think I'll mention that bullet hole is a little far back. I'm sure she was quartering toward him

It absolutely was quartering towards us. It hit lung and liver. The slug was just under the hide on the opposite rear leg.
