Bought muhself a new muzzleloader. Had to borrow one last year from Len to hunt early season (thanks again Len, and sorry about that pitted barrel!)
What kind of load do you use for your ML setup?
Where I hunt, priiiiime rut time is the 2 weeks of muzzleloader. Action packed, my favorite part of the season by far.
I will see what this gun likes, but I’d like to narrow it down to a couple of options. What I know so far is:
I will shoot pellets, not grain
I want a sabot, or sabot tail.
Get a good scope so you can see those nubbins.

I’ve got an old CVA stainless steel with a 3x9 that uses shotgun primers. I shoot 90 grains of loose Pyrodex and a 365 grain hollow point sabot made by buffalo ball.

Why do you want to shoot pellets, every test I have ever seen for every pellet out there shows wildly inconsistent velocities with them. I shoot 90gr of Blackhorn 209 with Federal Trophy Copper 270gr bullets and wouldn’t have a second thought shooting out to 200 yards.

I shoot a Hornady SST, but I can’t remember whether it’s the 250 or 300gr off the top of my head. I switched back to the pellets for convenience after using 2f black powder for years. (I also have a couple side lock percussion rifles I shoot for fun.). While I wouldn’t call the pellets wildly inaccurate, my experience was that you can greatly improve accuracy by customizing the load with koi’s powder.

Ha, I been thinking a 40 year old 30.06 is considered a primitive weapon???.....didn't say I been hunting with it, only said I been "thinking".
