    A/C Units

One of my 21 year old A/C units has lost its jizz and rather than spend the money to find the leak and refill it, we are just going to replace it with a new unit.
I replaced the main floor unit about six years ago with an Amana and we’ve been very happy with it. I am getting bids now and not many places carry them.
Would it look stupid to a prospective buyer if I had different brands of A/C units? I have three and won’t likely replace the last one until we get ready to sell, which be later this year.
    Any experience with other brands?
The thing I like about my main floor unit is it is two stage. The dehumidifier runs on low and it makes a huge difference in cooling when you can keep your humidity constant in the 40% range. Makes 80 feel like 70 and thats no poop.

I’ll take my answers off line!
    Thanks, Rush!

I have a variable speed unit now and it does make a world of difference. As to your question I can’t imagine it would make a difference to perspective buyers, it might be a selling point. They can expect xx years from the main unit and then xx years from the others. At least they know they won’t all go out at the same time.

My a/c is "on" 24/7 all year long. We "may" have 5-6 days of winter, but it's a heat pump, so it's still the same unit that's running.

I replaced mine in January of last year and so far, so good. Like Trav, it's a variable speed unit with a SEER of (can't remember persactly) 17 ... 18 ...?? I can't even remember the brand, but if I remember correctly, it's the "generic" brand built by Carrier. I have a buddy who's an a/c guy and he convinced me to buy it. He said he's installed a bazillion of them and really hasn't had a problem. Florida is ROUGH on a/c systems! The price was good and the 10-year warranty was a major deciding factor.

I also wouldn't worry about mixed brands. I think the main thing a home buyer wants to know is how old it is and if there's an existing warranty, you've got a buyer incentive built in. Example, if you had my unit and sold your house this year, it would be a nice bonus to tell them their a/c still had over 9-years of warranty left.

Sorry, this correspondence isn't off-line as requested 'cause Bucky told me you never answer your phone anyway.

Sorry to be confused, but are you talking about the compressor/fan assembly unit that sits outside the house with a central ac unit or do you have portable indoor units or some other type of stand alone deal?

Just your typical a/c compressor outside on a pad and furnace/air handler inside in the attic room.

    A/C Units

Got it. I’ve replaced both of my compressors with Trane units since I bought this place 14 years ago. They have a bigger box and larger fan than others that make them a little more efficient as the fan doesn’t have to work as hard. I’ve had zero problems
And definitely noticed a reduction in my energy costs. As a buyer, I’d care more that they’re new and how efficient they are than whether they matched.

If there is one thing for certain: when we move it won’t be to go back to work for The Man.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

I saw some fellas once in their back yard with their legs propped up on a cable spool table with a window a/c unit sitting on it. It looked like the cervesas were muy frio too.

It don’t take much cool air for a good time on a hot day.
