To be safe, they're all "toad-stools" to me. The only shrooms I've ever actively hunted were morels during Spring turkey season in Ohio.

My son would know. He's an avid shroom hunter and may even be hunting them as we speak. He travels a LOT (with his business) and always knows what's available wherever he'll be during his travels (he normally stays at least a week in each location).

Sorry, I hunt my shrooms at the supermarket ... only because I haven't learned enough about identifying them to keep from killing myself, but if I were to wager a guess ... I'd say "Honey Mushroom". I don't know their real name, but the fact yours appear to be at the base of an oak, it may fit. Eat one and let us know if you croak.

A friend of mine posted this, he’s an up and coming shroom hunter. He asked what they were, so I thought I’d share it with the think tank that we call Goodhunting.
    Shoulda knowed better!

You need Hidehunter. He eats all sorts of flora and fauna. And fungi.

I guessed the Honey Mushroom only because I know they're usually found on dead, dying or diseased trees, especially oaks. That looks like a "damaged" tree in your original pic.

BUT ... I still don't trust my own judgement and stick to supermarkets.

If they were in Iowa - I'd call them scaly caps... not considered edible
If you turn a dog loose to hunt – you’d better to be ready to deal with what he trees.
