I've seen it late in the season after a long bout of rain. There was a gentleman here who used to sell corn to the locals. One year he had some health problems and was a bit late getting to his harvest. That, plus a rainy spell caused some sprouting. He decided not to sell ANY of the crop (small patch of land) that season. He informed me I could have as much as I wanted if I was interested. Lynn and I went over and picked enough to fill my pick-up! Once we got it home, we found very little in the way of sprouting (just a few here and there) and froze the whole batch still in their husks. Needless to say, we had plenty of corn and it lasted us quite a while. I'm just glad we'd recently emptied the large freezer we keep in the garage!
