    How ironic ...

Those "GREEN" wind turbines in Texas have frozen up and now people are freezing to death due to power outages. Maybe we need to open that pipeline back up and burn some of those nasty old hydrocarbons to help kick off some of that good ol' global warming to thaw things out a bit. My BIL in Houston has solar panels for hot water, but they're covered in a thick sheet of ice and are worthless. Luckily, he has three GAS driven generators running his house right now. He let the neighbor run an extension cord over his fence to charge his electric car.

clueless Joe will pass along another executive order outlawing cold weather to take care of that

Maybe if Texas didn’t insist on having their own power grid, this wouldn’t be an issue!

Why CD, you know they never have winter where those wind farms are in the Texas panhandle! Nor in western Oklahma, Kansas, Colorado, Or the Dakotas. (that’s the grid we’re on and gettingblackouts too.

Here’s the reason they’re having rolling power outages across Texas. Of course, if you’d like to continue getting your info from TuckerCarlson amd Fox Business, then go right ahead.
But here’s what the Texicans are saying ,including the governor.

Funny, but its never ‘ironic’ when hurricanes hit Florida is it?

You can put as much lipstick on them as you want but wind turbines and solar panels are still pigs. Net loss systems. The energy (fossil fuels) and material resources that go into the manufacture and use of these technologies will never be replaced during their life cycle. 'Green' energy is a lie. Expensive, unreliable and impossible to recycle. We been took.

Okay! That’s fine. But these rolling outages have zero to do with ‘green’ energy. They’ve been happening in
texas long before wind power was a thing.

When it comes to hurricanes hitting Florida ... it usually means catching the foreskin around Miami and the Keys on it's way to Texas or Louisiana. Otherwise they just skip their way up into the Carolinas.

Ummm, notice my shit-disturbing emoji at the end of my post. It was 100% guaranteed to drag you out swinging ... you old curmudgeon. You're getting to be way too easy in your old age.

I think we all need to rethink wind and solar. Best quote I saw today - "Windmills, a 14th century solution to a 21st century non-problem". Sums it up for me.

Any conversation about the future of energy needs to include nuclear. But, that’s an inconvenient truth.

Absolutely. There are safe, efficient nuclear reactors already in use - CANDU. Check it out.

Interesting.... They need to get a handle on this. A certain phrase that starts with 3rd and ends with world comes to mind.

We lose power a lot due to trees knocking out power lines but as long as the Husky stays healthy we won't freeze to death.

Ironic that they are trying to close ND's coal mines because they are not environmentally friendly, yet WE are having rolling blackouts today so they can move OUR nasty power down south as the green power is inoperable.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Heck, nuclear destroyers and submarines are good enough for our Navy, I'll take my chances with a power plant ... or 50. (just make sure they put 'em all in Oklahoma)

Interesting read here about Texas and the power grid they’re so proud of.

I remember when we had an ice storm in SE Oklahoma and my parents were without power for almost a month and a week or so of that they had no water. Mother Nature can be hard on power grids. My Mom detests the smell of candles to this day. And she grew up in the day when kerosene lamps were still pretty common.

We’re setting records for low tempse ery day and not just by a degree or two, but by FIFTEEN degrees. Its a catastrophic storm for places where they don’t get this type of winter weather. Do you pay the big bucks to harden the system for 500 year events? I don’t know.

If it’s anything like hurricanes, don’t expect to walk into your local Home Depot and find a generator available.

Although this may be the most severe example, this isn’t unprecedented in Texas. It’s actually the third time in 10 years their self-managed grid has failed.

    From another article I saw:

“The weather has resulted in a 30-gigawatt energy shortage — equivalent to 30 big power plants going offline, according to Daniel Kammen, a professor of energy at UC Berkeley. Twenty-six of those lost gigawatts are from gas shortages, and 4 are from lost wind power due to frozen windmills.”

But, let’s keep blaming green energy.

    Another failure by Texas:

“It's also worth*poinitng out*that a lot of chillier places have wind turbines that don't buckle in the cold — hello, Iowa; hej hej, Denmark — they just need to be winterized, a step experts said Texas has skipped.*“

Heads need to roll down there over this sort of incompetence!

Bwana and I are in the same power pool, believe it or not. What we’ve seen in Okla are some one and two hour outages here and there but nothing on a huge scale. We haven’thad one at my house for example but some friends across town had a one hour outage yesterday. This morning they say we’ve dropped back to a level where they won’t be necessary today it looks like. Hopefully Nodak is in the same shape today!

With fake news, real news, factual news, fudged news, whatever news is out there these days, I never know what to believe anymore. I read an article this morning that said the lost energy from frozen wind farms in Texas was 30% of the power grid. About an hour after reading that, I saw an interview on tv news that stated the loss was 6%. WTF?
