    Your favorite obscure saying....

My all time favorite I heard from an old Norwegian from NODAK named Glen Kvislen. We habituated the same waterhole for a time. I called him ‘The Prince of Norway’. He gone now Odin rest his soul.

“Cowboys don’t cry and Indians don’t give a fuck.’

It actually applies pretty universally to any situation if you think about it.

    What is your favorite?

As my uncle Jessie used to say: "Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit!"

When I'd make something more complicated than it needed to be, my dad would say, "Boy, you're goin' around your ass to get to your elbow."

Well dang, I got started and realized I can think of a million of them, but I'm too lazy to list them all. I guess growing up in the South with one set of grandparents from Georgia and the other side who spent half their time in the mountains of Western N. Carolina, there probably aren't too many I haven't heard.

I have several "favorites". I like:

“If your intent is to gather birds, you’ve got to raise the gun, step up and fire... not write poems about how pretty they are.”
If you turn a dog loose to hunt – you’d better to be ready to deal with what he trees.

Another good one in a similar vein I’ve heard repeatedly from a good friend is “Looking at you like a brahma bull at a white faced calf”

One of my old high school buddy’s Mom used to say ‘If wishes were horses beggars would ride’.

She was a good old Catholic lady that had a million of them.

That reminds me of one my mom often said .... for example, when I'd use a round-about way of asking for some money like .... “If I had 5-bucks, I could go to the movies.” (key word "if")

    Her usual response?

“Yeah, and if your aunt had balls, she’d be your uncle!”

Another of my Mom’s, when she’d meet a date or a girlfriend and thought they were ‘fast’, she’d say “She’ll trip ya and beat ya to the ground”.

Funny but I thought all the ones she thought were ‘fast’ were too ‘slow’ for 17 year old me.
