    Living our best life

I was inspired by our thread this week. So, yes morning I aired up the Kayak and headed out to the Snoqualmie River.

A couple of thoughts first. One, I'm hitting old man status. I floated a river, wore my life jacket the whole time and drank water....I myself don't even want to know this person. But, it get worse, I spent the early morning hours dead heading my plants and watering.

ANYWAY, I got out, floated the river, and..........got gizzards....success.

    ANYWAY,
    ANYWAY

Those river pics remind me of why I almost moved up there at one time in my earlier life. Looks like you had a nice "old man" day!

Johnboy... how's the heat where you are? Really hot here in Snoqualmie?

Thump, I don't really like titles but I'm getting comfortable with trophy husband.

Meanwhile, we’ve had one of the most pleasant summers so far I can remember. We’ve got a few days of mid to upper 90’s this week. But, we’ve had 7-8 days this month with lows in the 50’s and highs in the 70’s. It’s rare in these parts to be able to have your windows open and AC off in June.

Pretty normal here. 70’s at night but pushing low 90’s during the day until the usual afternoon showers bring it back down to the mid-80’s. I have a few friends in the N. W. and they have no a/c. Whenever I asked them about it, they always said they didn’t need it up there. Al Gore tried to warn them!

Got a text from our son asking if we are enjoying the heat. He's somewhere above the Arctic Circle right now and the temp there is 33f. Maybe the Arctic isn't melting.

For many years I went to Northern Ontario for bear hunting (Spring AND Fall back in the day) as well as Walleye fishing. It was on Horwood Lake (outside of Timmins, Ontario) quite a ways North of the Arctic Circle. It could be sweltering one day and freezing the next.

Arctic Circle is 66 degrees north. Timmins is 48 degrees north. Way south but still 'north'.

Huh? Now I’m confused. On the way to Horwood (we’d cross out of Michigan at Sault St. Marie) and up through Missassauga, then up the river a ways. We’d always pass a sign on the road that said we were crossing the Arctic Circle. I have pics of me standing by it somewhere around here. Anyway, it was quite a ways before we’d get to Horwood. I guess I’ll have to look at the map and figure it out. Sitting in a damned good Vietnamese restaurant in Tampa right now and I’m putting a hurting on this place. They’ll have to roll me out of here!

TBH, I don’t know where Timmins is, related to Horwood. The only reason I mentioned it is I used to fly into Timmins when I lived in California and my buddy would pick me up there. Once I moved to Florida, I’d drive up and meet him in Ohio, then we’d drive on from there.

When I was 19, a buddy of mine and I took a four week trip up in that neck of the woods. Drove across southern Ontario from Toronto to Sault Ste Marie and then across northern Wiscy to Duluth. That Hiawatha NationalForest is a breathtaking drive. And that was just a small part of that trip!
I was living in Texas then and we cruised back into Texas with like $5 and two smokes left.Of course in those days living broke was a way of life.

Ha ha ha! So true. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’d pull into a gas station for $2 worth of gas in those days. Of course, that was the high end, sometimes we’d have to dig change out from between the seat cushions.
