Hard to read sideways. What's it say? Hiring, 2 for a dollar?

We have a McD's two blocks from our house and their sign has read Now Hiring - $15/hour. Evidently that ain't good enough as the sign has been up for months now.

$15 and $21 an hour is still only $30-40k/year assuming it’s full time work. Great money for a teenager. But, you’re not providing for a family on it around here.

Per capital income in this county is under $25,000

    Mean household income is $50,500

    That was pre-Covid (2019)

Lies, damn lies and statistics. Hard to say what those numbers mean without more information. But, I’ll note that that are likely we’ll under the “poverty level” in the U.S.

    Census ....

I learned a LONG time ago that how much money one makes is directly proportional to where one lives. I moved here from Los Angeles and bought a 2-story house with 900 sq. ft. attached garage, inground swimming pool. 1-acre lot on a quiet cul-de-sac in a private subdivision on a spring-fed lake with private boat ramp and community ($100/year HOA fee) beach/dock/gazebo, etc. for $115,000. I'd just left L.A. where this same house could have easily cost 10 - 100 times that amount, depending on neighborhood. Income is all relevant. (Oh, we also have no State income tax)

Restaurants and bars around here are starting to offer benefits. I do think region is really important, $20/hr in Seattle won't get you far and you'll definitely be at the poverty line. I can't figure out where all the workers went, didn't covid supplemental income stop? Between supply chain issues, worker shortages (people not wanting to work), inflation, and covid it sure seems like we are in for a rough few years coming up.
