    Different kind of auto race

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is hosting a first of its kind race this Saturday.

They are hosting an autonomous vehicle challenge. It has been a two year ongoing project with numerous universities around the world. The schools have modified current Indy Lights race cars and made them autonomous. Those cars will be racing on the IMS oval with the winner taking home a million dollar prize.

    Different kind of auto race

This race is being live-streamed. Pretty neat so far. They have obstacles set up that the car needs to avoid as well as varying track flag conditions that the car has to meet as well, green, yellow, etc., then the car has to stop in its pit box.

So far the fastest lap time is just over 130 mph. This phase is testing car response and not speed. Of the cars successfully pass this step they go for speed laps later.
