    That helpless feeling …

It kind’a sucks sitting here in frigging Iowa and watching a hurricane head straight for our house. It makes it kind’a tough knowing if a window blows out, the house will just sit there filling with rain. Roofing blows off? Same deal. Not there to throw a tarp over it. Oh well, all we can do is sit here helplessly and hope for the best. To make matters worse, Lynn will be flying home on the 30th for a few days (to check on the cats). She’ll be flying out of St. Louis through Atlanta, both ways. Tell me that’s not gonna be a cluster-fuck. Heck, she may get home and have no power. The motor home was our back-up as the plan was to simply plug into the generator in case of a power outage, but it’ll be in St. Louie with me. This could be a real mess. Hoping for the best.

I was thinking about you guys when I saw the track of the storm. It looks like you have until about Thursday to figure out a plan. I was wondering if you’d drive back into it trying to get home or sweat it out somewhere else and hopefully have a neighbor or two who can check on things for you.
    Whichever, best of luck!

Naaa, not gonna disrupt a great vacation for a stupid hurricane. I mean, there ARE priorities in life!

My main concern is that Lynn has to fly down there on Friday and will be returning to St. Louis a few days later. We’ll be camped at a casino there awaiting her return so we can continue on. Lots of reservations made already and a blip in the scheduling will just snowball all the way down the line. We’re not due to return home until the end of October. This “could” make a mess of things in more ways than one.

Flying into Orlando or Tampa on Fridaymight be kind of bumpy! Not sure how they could fly around that big ass storm if its Cat 4 like they’re saying it’ll be.

Ha! We’ve been here two days and I JUST NOW found out we’re not in Iowa, we’re in Wisconsin! We’ve crossed that river so many times, I lost track. We’re sitting in some little bar in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin watching the Bucks play the Packers. I kind’a wondered why I’d get all the side-eye looks whenever I cheered for Tampa Bay! Ha! This could be fun once I get a few beers in me and the Bucks kick those cheeseshead asses!

While you’re in Wisconsin make sure you try the Spotted Cow. I stock up every time I get there.

If you get the chance, check out the Dubuque/Galena area just south of where you are now. Pretty neat area and great scenery.

I hope that everything works out for Lynn and the homestead.

I sspent quite a bit of time in Wisconsin during my four year stint in Sales. Time in my life I’ll never get back by the way.

My favorite city in the whole place is Rhinelander, right in the middle. Friendly people, beautiful town, and there is one of the coolest bar and grills in the universe. This place has every Browning shotgun ever mad hanging on the walls all throughout the place. And enough awesome taxidermy here and there to keep you gawking for hours. Whole stringers of big walleyes hanging all over the place that look real enough to clean and eat. And good beer. Wish I could remember the name. Someday I want to go back in summer. With fishingpoles and a boat. Awesome place in the heart of wiscy.

You're right across the river from Cliff's inlaws in Elkader.
Pheasant hunted with Cliff there years ago, crossed the river to where you're at for Pizza one night.
Wifes family comes from Clermont, right of US 18. If you go through Clermont, right in the middle of town by the Courthouse you see a statue of her Great Uncle, last name of Anderson.
The older I get, the better I was. I also forget my password and have to have Len reset it for me

Me too on the drive in today. Jim and Lynn are like Goodhunting's own storm reporting Ernie Pyle.

I don't know how you guys put up with it to be honest. Bad weather is one thing, hurricanes are something else entirely. You must really like Florida man. I remember one of my favorite old TV shows as a young adult had an episode about hurricanes. (way back warning!)

Damn Jim, the path of that storm is right over your house now. I’ll sure be sending every positive wave I can in your direction.

You can get a cheap Alro camera system for very little cash that will let you set cameras wherever you want. Not that it could save your house or anything but certainly would let you know what, if anything, happened to your place. It easy to install, easier to manage and view footage. Keeps up to 30 days, no subscriptions required.

This is for the next hurricane, of course.

    That helpless feeling …

I talked to one of my cousins that lives in Sun City Center today. She made it through without any damage but isn’t sure when she will get power back.

Hope you fared as well Jim.

The videos out of Fort Myers look bad.

Can anyone tell me where Jim lives? I hope it's not Ft. Myers or thereabouts.

My god, some of the video is like Puerto Rico a few years ago. Some of those neighborhoods are just gone.

According to my neighbors, they can’t see any damage. Just leaves and tree debris in the yard. We’re in St. Louis right now and Uber picked Lynn up at 5:00 am this morning to catch a flight home. Of course, she’s now stuck in Atlanta as they changed her flight time as she was in the air! Makes it nice when you have neighbors willing to pick her up at the airport, only to arrive to find her not there. It was a planned trip anyway as she has to check on the cats and prepare them for us being gone another 3-4 weeks. (Don’t ask)

Glad all is well. Maybe the storm blew away 40 or 50 of those cats for you
