What does ‘crabwalk’ on these new trucks mean to a regular pickemup truck guy?
What driving situations would it be most useful for? I can maybe understand a few off road situations but damn, they are expensive!

Viva Renaldo!
For the life of me, I can't see how it would ever justify the expense. A rich man's play-toy maybe? Heck, GM came out with Quadrasteer over 20 years ago and it fizzled after only a couple years. Cool, but goofy IMHO.

I don’t even know what it is.

Seems like a gimmick at best.

Yeah, I guess it might help a bit at parallel parking. Who knows?
Cars and trucks continue to get more and more complex and expensive. I wonder how a 'simple' vehicle, with minimum doo dads and oh wow features would do in the market. Priced accordingly, of course.
I've been looking for a replacement for the wife's car and there is nothing that interests me out there. Just getting a naturally aspirated V6 in a med sized suv is impossible. All turbo 4's. No thanks.
Yessir, welcome to the real world John. I just went through the same thing last year. I will admit, I'm "old school" also and have had a problem adapting through the years. It was like pulling teeth to get me to move on from V-8's to V-6's. I felt like it was a slap in the face and I was being reduced from a man to a pussy, but I finally got used to being a pussy and realized most of the 6's these days put out more power than the old bread & butter V-8's I grew up with ... and get TONS more MPG. I will say, back in the day, if I broke down, unless an engine had a puddle of oil under it and a rod hanging out the side of the crankcase, there was a 95% chance I could get it running again with a pair of pliers and a screwdriver while on the side of the road. These days, there's no reason to even open the hood. Just call a tow truck.
We've been driving Toyota Highlanders for quite a few years now and really like the car. They all had a V-6's, which I wasn't real happy about, but as you say, there aren't a lot of options these days. BUT, I grew to like it and never had a problem with power or performance (my old street racing days are long gone). BUT ... last year, we traded for a 2023 model and it had a frigging turbo-charged 4-cyl! Ummm, NO I said ... then was told that's my ONLY option! I wasn't happy, but what-cha gonna do? I liked the car and bought it.
Well, we've had it for 2 years (as of Black Friday) and I'll admit, I have zero issues with drivability. It's actually down 30HP from our trade, BUT ... it has a whopping 50lbs more torque and the real kick in the ass is that torque kicks in at 1700 RPM as opposed to 4700 RPM with the 6-cyl, so the HP thing is a wash imho. Heck, if you think about it, your max torque kicks in when you're barely off idle! I was surprised at the fuel mileage though. The overall average is the same for both engines (actually 1 mpg up on the 4-cyl for city driving), so why the change? It boils down to emissions. The 4-cyl turbo puts out HALF what the 6-cyl spews, and that's what it's all about with the gov't regs these days. Face it, a 50% reduction is a pretty big number in the emissions world.
So, car buying has become what the experience is for most products these days. You don't get what you want, you buy what's available.

Don’t tell anyone, but I broke down and got a [emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]]] cylinder turbo hybrid for my Mrs about a year and a half ago. It’s a a crossover with a third row and has plenty of get up and go and still gets mid thirties MPG. I was a skeptic but will likely look at a turbo/hybrid for my next pickup.

Why give up? That last post is clean.
