As long as eddie is asking...

...I have a 24-volt trolling motor on my old tug and am wondering is there a right or wrong way to top off the charge on the 2 deep-cycle batteries? In other words, do you need to disconnect them from each other to charge? If you connect the charger to one, does it charge them both if they are not disconnected or just the one that is connected?

No, charge them both individually with a single 12 v. Charger.

You'll get tired of this and do what I did and get a 2 or 3 bank charging system. I have the MinnKota 315D.
