    UT QB BS

    From 247….. 247Sports'
    @JoshPateCFB
says Nico Iamaleava & others threatened to opt out of last season's CFB playoffs unless they were paid more NIL money: 😳

"This stuff was happening last December during the playoffs — with this kid included, but not just this kid. They were trying to get more money from Tennessee and other playoff teams before the playoffs. They were trying to leverage playoff participation."

"The explainer was, 'Our client is being paid X amount of money to participate in 12 games, maybe a 13th if you make the conference championship game. But you guys made the playoff. He should make money money.' This is the kind of BS that's happening behind the scenes right now."

I’m most definitely not a Tennessee fan, I’m still mad as hell about the ‘71 Liberty Bowl. But this kid Iamaleava and some others hopefully will find themselves playing for the Immatellin U Battling Earthworms.
    This is ridiculous.

At least the university had the balls to stand up to him. I think that there needs to be some type of contract involved to protect both sides (the players from being promised stuff and it not being delivered and the schools from holdouts).

In my opinion they also need to address the issue of scholarships in this era of NIL. I think that if an athlete is making money to play then they can pay for their education. Maybe set a threshold, if an athlete gets over x dollars a year then they are responsible to pay their way. Use those athletic scholarships for kids in the smaller sports or put them towards academic scholarships.

They also need to change the transfer portal. The way it is now every athlete is basically there on a one year free agent deal.

More and more schools are hiring general managers to oversee NIL programs. OU just hired Trae Young. Stanford hired the QB from the Colts who is the Stanford alumnus, can’t recall his name.
And if UT had really stood up to him they’d have ditched his narrow ass when it came up during the playoffs. It would have been more impactful and shown more what an ass the kd was for doing it.

Still, some agent talked him into it. You just know it. But I hope the kid lands at Imatellin U.

Isn’t karma fun? Tennessee is the school that sued (and won) the right use collectives to pay players enormous amounts of money. Now their qb (Nico Iamaleava) sat out of spring practice because he wanted 4 million instead of the 2.4 million he was getting.

Nico passed for 2600 yds in 13 games last year and wanted a $2m increase? Thats 200 yds a game. About like batting 200 and demanding a raise. The fact that “cobeer” Pitloss and team beat them is enough to dock him a half million or so. I get the red ass every time I see the letters NIL.

From what I’ve seen reported, it wasn’t just about him sitting out the practice and the threats to sit out before the playoffs last season. There are reports that he wasn’t meeting his obligations for the NIL deal, not showing up at fan events, autograph sessions, or other appearances that were part of his deal.

The whole system fubar. I get these guys should be paid but there needs to be limits and rules. These idiots haven’t yet realized that they’re killing the goose that lays the golden eggs.

I'm a Purdue fan this year. I'm rooting for Malachi Singleton to shine. I thought he's was the best QB on the team for the last two years but the Pitloss didn't think so. I've reached the point that I don't listen to or even read anything about Sam Pittman, he's a snake oil salesman masquerading as a coach.

I’m going into the football season not expecting much but hoping that Odom can get some momentum for the program. It’s a shambles right now but there was a lot of off-season roster turnover (including all of the good players) so who knows what the results will be. It would be nice to see a turnaround like Indiana last year, but the schedule is nowhere close to as favorable as IU’s was last year.

Plus, in my 40+ years as a Purdue fan, I don’t remember a time when the football and basketball teams were good at the same time and I’m really optimistic about the next basketball season.

Soonerfans go into the season not knowing much, and honestly I think expectations are down. New QB is unknown really in this setting, receiver room is very young, rb room as well, TEs are very thin. Defense looks strong but without theor leader for the first time in four years. Not that Venables has many seasons before the faithful get restlessaround here. I like it better that way, honestly. Just play the damn games.

I was, not long ago, as big of a college football fan as exists in these here united states.

    ~sigh~

Now? Due to NIL and the portal I really don't see a reason for college sports to exist. Seriously, these are all pro sports teams now and they really have no place in academia. Let the NFL and NBA pony up and form junior league sports teams to babysit these guys until they are ready for prime time. Sadly that is how I now see it.

But even if they don't, college sports are imho doomed anyway. There is no pro sports league that has no contracts (annual free agency) and no salary cap. The reason is that it will collapse into a monopoly of a few big money teams with the rest unable to really compete. That's where they are headed and I refuse to watch... I've no reason to intentionally seek out more sadness in this world.

And speaking of BS, how’s this for a kick in the pants? I don’t hate the kid but this is redongculous. Wonder what Joel Klatt thinks about this?
And his buddy, Travis Hunter has mandated that if he can’t play both CB and WR in the pros, then he won’t play football at all. Nice mandate to the teams that will make him a multimillionaire in a few days. I dount that ultimatum lasts very long.

Unfortunately it won't happen but it'd be great if he wasn't drafted until 7th round and had to sign for the base pay. He'd probably sue the league for discrimination

They let Bo and Deion play baseball while they played in the NFL, which at the time was considered pretty huge. Not sure how or if this compares. From what I’ve seen of Hunter playing in games, he might be the same talent level as either of those two. And that is saying a lot when you’re mentioned in the same sentence as Bo Jackson. Dude was a MAN. (an All Star in both MLB and NFL)

I don’t see Travis Hunter falling past #3 in the first round regardless of all the BS.

Will, I’ve been thinking for a while we should let the Texas, ND, tOSU, Bama and the rest just go off and do their thing. I’d go back to the old regional conferences (the ACC in my case) with home and away in basketball and you play everybody every year in football in a heartbeat. I’ve got little interest in playing Cal or SMU.

You have to wonder how much betting has to do with any of this.
