Can't stand it any longer. gonna try it.

Getting ready to fry up a batch of fish and potatoes. Going to take the plunge and try some hot water cornbread that QA was talking about in an earlier thread. You suppose an Okie white boy can get this done? Update to follow.

We ate until we were sick. The hot water cornbread was a huge hit. I added some jalepenos to the batter and will probably add some onion next time. Delicious with fried fish and potatoes. Thanks QA.

How is Hot Water Cornbread different from Buttermilk Cornbread?

Totally different. No milk or eggs in it. Also, fried in patties instead of baked.

Interesting! Can y'all post a link, or explain how it's done?

It was mentioned in an earlier thread but not in detail. I just googled "hot water cornbread" and quickly found many links, all of which were very similiar. Some variation in ingredients but very similiar. Also I easily found some videos in youtube. Makes a nice substitute for hushpuppies would be my best comparison. Give it a try.

I sure will. I'll have to look it up when I get back to a real computer.

Sounds kindof like the last time I fried fish. Just used cornbread mix and spices. Dredged the fillets in milk and the cornbread mix. Then when I got done with the fish, I mixed the milk in with the cornbread mix and spooned up dollops and dropped 'em in the hot grease to see what would happen. Turned out pretty good.

Reminds me of when we fry biscuits at the creek.
