Found an old fishing lure at an estate sale and listed it this afternoon. It sold in a frigging hour! It's a love/hate relationship when that happens. I love it due to the fact I made a sale ... but I hate that it gives me the feeling I under-priced it and maybe should have auctioned it instead. Oh well ... a sale's a sale. Had an extra box with it too!

Hmm.. Doesn't even appear to be that old. Looks like the "Top Dog". I think there's one in my tackle box. What did it bring?

HH, I don't think it's all that old either. There's no "name" on it, it just says it's a model TT24. I threw in the empty box which was for a TT25. Heck, they sold new for $6-$7 bucks I think. I didn't even try to date it but the address on the paperwork has a zip code, so it can't be over 50 years old. Prolly much newer than that. I just listed it at $10.50 and it got snatched up immediately. I'm not so sure it's a pricey lure ... prolly just someone's favorite that may not be available anymore ... or it could be part of a collection. The guy who bought it manufactures and markets fishing leaders.

That's what I like to deal with ... I picked these up for $0.25 (total). I like "smalls" that I can make a quick $10-$20 on. It doesn't put me in the poorhouse if it doesn't sell, but it's a huge profit margin if it does. (I go for volume) It's just fun to tinker with for some pocket change. It's usually simple stuff like this, but sometimes I get lucky and stumble on a high bucks item. You know the saying about a "blind hog" ... right?

Ha! I just found a new one out of a tackle and bait shop in North Carolina for $6.99 including shipping. Go figure. Maybe the "vintage" one's are more desirable than the new ones. Who knows? I did notice something about the one I have that I kind of doubt is used on the newer lures, but I have no clue really. Mine has the hardware screwed on ... I'd imagine that may not be the norm today, but that's just a guess. If we had a fishing forum around this joint, someone could prolly tell me if that's still common.

Bucky, I don't know what you mean by "original". Big O's go anywhere from 99 cents to $400.

Thanks for the incentive Buckster. I think I need to do a little studying on lures. Who knows what I may run across in some dusty old garage?

For what? I'm just not all that nostalgic I guess. I used to "collect" EVERYTHING ... then started wondering why? The problem is, nowadays, with the internet, a LOT of what used to be high-bucks collectibles, have now dropped severely in value. What used to be rare as hen's teeth and almost impossible to find (which made it valuable), is now sometimes just a click away on the internet and what was rare yesterday, became very plentiful overnight. That's what happened with those gun books I collected a few years ago. My previous $1000 collection is now worth a couple hundred bucks. Some items are rare and always will be ... others were "thought" to be rare, but really aren't anymore.

True value and "emotional" value are two different things. The old "whatchamacallit" your grandfather gave you is usually MUCH more valuable (to you) than one you located at a yard sale for instance. I'm not emotionally attached to much of anything anymore and am having more fun selling stuff than keeping it to gather dust. I think Cappy is reaching that point with some of his stuff.

OK, since we don't have a fishing forum and you're into old lures, here are some I've had since i was a kid.
    Bottom two are Heddon.
    See any value here?

I don't know squat about 'em Bubba. In fact, I got burned about 20-25 years ago. I was having a yard sale and some guy walked up and asked if I had any old lures. I didn't have any out there, but walked in the garage and pulled out about 10 old Heddon lures that used to belong to my grandfather. He offered me $25 and I thought it sounded like a good deal. Later that year, I was at a gun show and one of the distributors there had a big board with an old lure collection mounted on it. I SWEAR ... most every lure I sold that guy was on that board! Some of 'em were priced in the hundreds of $$$.

I really don't know enough about them to know what's what. For example, the one you have on the lower right is a "Punkinhead" and I've seen them go from 99 cents to a couple hundred $$$. One variation I see is some tie through the mouth (like yours) and some have the eyelet UNDER the mouth. I'm not sure what the difference is as far as value is concerned, but the "under the mouth" eyelets seem to draw the big bucks.

For example, here's one with the eyelet under the mouth and it sold for $323.00!

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/HEDDON-PUNKI...p2047675.l2557

Here's one like yours that brought $55 a month ago ...

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Heddon-Punki...p2047675.l2557

But then again, this one brought $16 ... Go figure!

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mint-Unfishe...p2047675.l2557

And another that brought less than $11.00

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/HEDDON-PUNKI...p2047675.l2557

I just wish I knew how to tell the difference. I don't know if it's the lures themselves that's different ... or simply a different bidding audience when it's listed.

I think this is an example of your other Heddon and it only brought $7.75

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-LURE...p2047675.l2557

I think I have a lot of learning to do if I'm gonna get into the "vintage lure business"!
