    This "might" be interesting.

Got an estate sale in town this weekend. Evidently the guy owned a pawn shop and all the contents are going to be sold. Looks like guns, ammo, tree stands, scopes, bows/cross-bows ... as well as guitars and all the usual pawn shop stuff. No clue how the prices will run though. (a few pics)

    Bolt action 30-30.

    Old .22 lever-action.

    Misc.

    Fishing stuff.

    Knives.

    Long guns.

    Git-tars.

Well, just looking through those guitars I see a couple of Martins acoustics and I see a Gretch and a Les Paul electric in that bunch. Might be some jewels in there!

I'd like to have that Gretsch!

I'd take that Baretta pistol in the box if it's a .380. I need me a pocket pistol!

If the prices were right I could definitely lose some money at an estate sale like that.

lol.. well if "pawn shop" prices apply like in our area... about half-again new retail.

I know what you mean Hidey-Ho! As a teenager, I LOVED going to pawn shops and would always find some great deals. In the past 20 years or so, you can many times beat their prices in the retail stores. They've gotten ridiculous over the past few years.

I have no idea what kind of prices this place will have ... but I do know they want to empty the store so they can sell it ... or whatever they plan to do with it.

It'll be interesting to see how this one turns out.

In the last picture, if the 2nd from the left is a Gibson, I have one exactly like it.

I had that one pegged as a Martin HD 28. Hard to tell with the headstock out of the pic, but the pick guard, saddle, and trim around the top make it look like one.

Both are dandy guitars though if the price is right. Thumper if you see that one is indeed a Martin and it's in good shape and less that a grand pick it up for me!

Well, to be honest, I took the day off. There's an estate sale I was going to, but it turned out to be a woman who lived in one side of a small duplex. All the pics showed was new furniture and pristine "stuff". It looked like the only thing stored in her garage was Christmas decorations! I like the dirty old barn or hoarder types where I have to really dig in and get dirty! It's kinda like driving by a yard sale ... it just takes a glance to see if there's "man stuff" there.

The pawn shop thing turned out to be an estate AUCTION. I've been to those a few times but they really don't turn my crank. I figure with the guns and stuff, there will prolly be a bunch of dealers bidding ... plus they were taking phone bids ... not my bag. Give me a price .. if I like it, I'll buy it ... but I ain't gonna fight someone for it.

I have errands to run and I'm meeting a friend at the Toyota dealer who wants to buy a new car. Gonna turn him onto my salesman for a few brownie points as well as see to it he gets a good deal.

I "hear" you Bucky. I'm talkin' 'bout estate auctions. Even on eBay, when selling, I always have a BIN (buy it now) price. The only time I run true auctions, is when I have no clue what something is worth. I let the market establish the price in those situations. With "friends", I'll ask what they'd like to pay and if it's what I feel is a reasonable offer, I'll let it go (or at times just GIVE it to them) even if I could have made more on the open market.

Auctions are a really tough place to buy sporting equipment here. . guns especially. Last gun I actually bid on (several years ago) was a Model 12. I was buying and selling a few and knew if I could buy it for $425 I could flip it for a hundred quick. I tend to have a price in mind, chase it to that price as fast as I can bid - then quit.. dead in the water - cold turkey - quit. Chased it to 430 and stopped. Auctioneer begged and begged and begged... nope. In a few minutes, one of his helpers showed up with another guy. Come to find out - I was bidding against the owner (only two of us bidding) and he decided he'd sell it to me for my final bid. I suggested he stick it squarely up his ass.
