    Speaking of Baseball

MLB is concerned about pitchers getting hit by line drives. So here's what they came up with. Padded caps. Yes, padded freaking caps. And even they are optional. Typical of a Bud Selig baseball league to come up with a half assed solution and then only make it optional. They can't take a firm stand on anything.

Well, since A Rod's drugged, steroid-laden azz is gone for quite some time, 90% of the problem is solved, right there.

The NFL had its concussion lawsuit and they are trying to tweak the rules to lessen head injuries. Wonder if any pitchers have been injured by a ball off the bat of a known PED user. Since MLB was looking the other way for a long time, wouldn't that make MLB liable?

Good question. I'll bet its a topic of discussion in the boardroom at Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe right this moment.

Or, maybe it was revenge from a previous beaning by the opposing PED-crazed pitcher.

Wow, this sheeit has some far-reaching consequences, don't it?

What if the opposing team's mascot gets hit by a foul ball off the bat of a PED-crazed batter???....now that's a sure-fire lawsuit, right there.

One of my son's baseball buddies got hit in the eye while pitching in a USSSA game. 12 years old and got his eye socket pretty much crushed. They patched him up with some steel plates and he's good as new. Very lucky kid. Batter was using a hot composite bat, the bat rules were pretty wide open. The rules have since been tweaked but baseball is still dangerous even at a young age.

A good friend of Trav and I took a line drive right on the bridge of his nose on the mound playing softball. It broke both orbits, cheekbones, and nose of course. It flat put him out of commission for a long time. Can't imagine ball players wearing helmets. I think it'd be wise for pitchers to wear a batting helmet though if they'd do it. Just make it mandatory once they decide and quit all this optional stuff though.

A lot of girls youth softball leagues require face masks for all infielders. I've heard of some youth soccer leagues requiring helmets, soccer has more concussions than any other sport. If they are required, then everyone wears one and no one can call you put for being sissy. I'm all for safety, especially in youth sports. Who knows what a concussion at 10 can do to a person later in life.
