Last year my daughter didn't have the arm strength needed to shoot the 20 g her brothers used so we borrowed a .410. Though I had my concerns she showed me twice that the little gun was capable of killing a turkey so this year I started looking for a single shot .410 for her.
Talk about surprised, not only were they tough to find but they wanted $200 for an old single shot!
Put an ad on a local sight and long story short, I got this little gem for $110.

You think "they" want a lot for a single-shot? Did ya even FIND a pump-action to price? My LORD 410's can get spendy!

From what I understand, those NEF's are built the same as the old Harrington & Richardson "Topper" break-action.
Just curious but do you have any trouble finding ammo for your 410? I've thought about picking one up for my grandson who will be ready for a gun in five or six years. Never too early you know.

A few years back, a .410 was on my bucket list of "must haves". It was the usual for me ... I didn't "need" one ... I simply "wanted" one. THEN I priced ammo. Sheeeesh! I think the shells were filled with gold pellets or sumpin'. It was insane! No clue what the going rate is today, but I can now say I've never owned a .410.

410's were never a big want for me, could not find a good reason to get one. But about 4 years ago a former teacher I worked with was getting rid of his grandfathers guns and offer this little beauty to me for $350.
Almost new condition, but made back in 62, first run of these little guns, only run made using walnut stocks.
Still don't know what I can do with it, but I do now have a grandson.

JB, I'll give you $351.00 for that shotgun.I've had a couple .410 and currently own a little Mossberg Defender with the pistol grip and an 18.5" barrel. It's one of my favorite shotguns and has killed nearly as many critters as my 12 gauges. As for finding ammo it's one of the easier guns to find ammo for right now. Pretty much every sporting goods store around here has a good supply of .410 which is a whole lot more than I can say for about anything else ammo related.

I did actually find a pump .410 and if I recall the gent said it was a Westernfield and he was asking either $275 or $225 but since we have a 20 g pump waiting for her when she gets strong enough to handle it, I figured the single shot would be better for a beginner.
So, BS given your love of them any chance that high kill count with the .410 is comprised mostly of snakes?

Nice score Bwana. Back when i was running beagles I had an 870 .410. Carried it a lot when I was running with other people or other dogs. By myself I usually carried a rifle - one because I usually didn't care about killing a bunch of rabbits and two, I hate picking shot if I don't have to. Once a year a buddy and I would take it and his 1100 .410 dove hunting. You tend to pick your shots a little more but actually a pretty effective little dove gun.
The only guns I have even been looking at lately was possibly something in a .22 mag for coons. Stopped at local and newly re-opened watering hole yesterday and an old buddy I hadn't seen for year was in there. He said, "Didn't you tell me one time you'd be interested in my 39A." "Yep". "Well, I'm going to sell it." "I'll be out." Both my Granddad and my Dad had one and I didn't end up with either. I will probably own this one.

410's are for enjoyment. sure looks like a savage 311 to me also.
I think it's a 311A, should pull it out of the safe to check.
I also have a 39A that goes back to the 50's, nicest 22 I own.
I remember back in the 50's about seeing the ad in Boys Life mag. for them, some kid saving his grandmothers barn from rats or his girl friend from a snake. Always wanted one but never could afford one back then.
Came across mine about 25 years ago. Lot of history behind those 39A's

I'm not sure on the vintage of this one. I know it has a Williams sight on it. I'll probbaly have to scope it. Grandpa's was bought in the 40s - Dad's was a late 50s. Pretty hard to beat the quality - and most of them are shooters.

JB, in all seriousness if you decide to sell that shotgun rather than pass it along, I would be very interested in it. My very first shotgun was a Savage/Stevens 20ga single shot, with case harden side plates just like that one you posted. I have a lot of good memmories tied to that old shotgun. It sure could use a sidexside partner.
