    O'Dark Thirdty

Is coming tomorrow AM, pick up #3 at 6am, in the woods by 6:30, light about 7:15
We have about 4" of new snow and a little more coming tomorrow, high should be around 28 just about perfect.
Lot's go good sign, some nice bucks on the trail cam, and we each have a doe permit.
I'll check in tomorrow night hopefully with some pic's.
    Be careful out there.
The older I get, the better I was. I also forget my password and have to have Len reset it for me

    Good luck sir!

This sounds crazy... But I'm trying to talk myself into getting up in the morning for opening day. Just got home tonight, wife is out of town so it's me and the boys, the house is showing at noon tomorrow, (so I have to make sure everything is straight).... And I'm TIRED!

Plus, it's gonna be 24 degrees in the morning and I don't have a heated tower stand like SOME people do!

I'm heading out for our opening tomorrow as well. Legal shooting time is 7:00 and it's supposed to be about 19 degrees. My buddy that usually comes up to hunt for the opening weekend called and cancelled on me so I'll be by myself.

Those are the mornings that make me really miss my Dad. I still have a stand in the same place his always was, so I'll tell him good luck like I always did as I went on to my stand from where his was and tell him how much I miss him. Can't believe it's been 15 years since he passed.

Good luck to you and your boys JB. Enjoy the time together.

I got to the woods and into my stand around 6:30 this morning. Legal shooting time was around 7:00. At 7:10 had a doe come up to about 60 yards of me. I'm not above shooting a nice doe, but can't bring myself to do it 10 minutes into the season. Saw about a dozen more does throughout the morning, but no bucks.

Got to the point my hands and feet were getting cold so I finally got out of the stand just before 11:00 AM. The cold wasn't as bad as I was expecting since there wasn't any wind this morning even though the temp was 16 degrees when I got to my wide open, unheated ladder stand.

May try again later this afternoon, or if not today, I'll be back out in the morning.
Here is the view from my stand from left to right.

The guys had my rifles this morning so I broke out the old thuty thuty. At 0635 a big muley head stepped out about 40yds broadside, almost as if she was daring me to shoot. She would have been well advised to trot on across without stopping. I scoped her out good to make sure it wasn't a spike (anther foolish arkansas regulation) and lit her up with 150 hrs of core lock. Lots more tissue damage than the ballistic tip kill earlier this week. Those little Remington bullets are way under rated as deer killers

Looks that way but actually she was looking down the logging road at the first two that had already beaten her to the corn pile...

Good opening morning, cold and quiet. Very slow, I think we heard only about a half dozen close shots, way less than normal, and a
    Saturday opener to boot.
Saw about 8 deer, all does and fawns. Let the mama's walk with her kids.
Missed my chance at one at about 110 yd's through some brush, easy shot but I think it was deflected, (good excuse as any)
It's not as easy to put 9 hours in on a open stand in 26 degree weather, called #3 tonight and canceled out for tomorrow.
Will try again on Wednesday .

Perfect day. Thank you Lord. Overcast, still, high 30's. Saw one juvenile male ocedelious virginianis, two saber-toothed squirrels, and an unidentifiable hawk.

    Time for football.

This was me on our Opener this past Saturday. It was a brisk 12 degrees. (And, yes I wished I'd had a heater. Propane or "buddy" either one...)

Different scenery on the hunt today. We got a couple of inches overnight.

I do too. Temp was 26 when I got there, but it was dropping and the wind was picking up. I only saw a couple of does. It looked like they moved overnight with all of the tracks in the snow. Supposed to have a high of 19 tomorrow, so I think they are hunkering down.
