A comfortable stump, fresh snow and 20 some degrees makes for a perfect morning in the woods, but tough to fall asleep.
#3 wanted to go out this AM so I tagged along. About an hour on stand and this one comes walking slowly through the woods with his nose down, about 80 yd's out.
It's just over 1/4 mile from truck to my ladder stand, tough walk for an old man so about half way I built a ground blind. Usually sit about an 1 and a half hours then walk the rest of the way. Was at the ground blind when he came through.
One shot with my new 308 and game over.
    Want-ta-be 8 (one really short G3) 2 1/2 year old, 165# dressed.
Feels good, first buck here at home since 08, #3 still has his buck tag and we both have private land doe tags so it ain't over.

Nice deer. But, I think you've been taking smile lessons from Larke.

Looks like he just et' sumpin' sour!

Sumpin' 'bout a 7-foot tall dude who's as big as a house just makes a nice buck look tiny. Any way you can long-arm that guy Bubba?

Congrats JB nice buck! I assumed you missed and the poor boy froze to death!
I could not hunt up there, cause I could not walk with enough clothes on to keep me warm!
    Hope Doug get one soon!

Good buck JB! As much as I like to hunt in the snow then I remember how cold it will be and I rather take any 70 degrees day over it...

I think the 308 is about the best all a round round you can own. It'll do everything an 06 will do in a short action.
Bullet weights all the way up to 180gr work.
The rifle in the picture is a custom Montana "Rifle Company left hand short action I had them make for me back on 03. I had them make it in 358 Win. Loved the round but found I didn't shoot it much because about the only ammo you could get were your reloads.
Last year I had it re-barrel to a 308, I didn't get it back till after deer season so this was the first year I could hunt with it.

    Good job Bubba.

    .308.......80 yards......about right.
WARNING - Due to the rising costs of ammunition, warning shots will no longer be given.
