    "Build a better mousetrap..."

I've always been fascinated with mousetraps.. When I buy a new one the first thing I usually do is modify it. Few years ago I built a couple with the spinning can over a 5 gallon bucket. Worked great. Somewhere, recently, (hell, I don't know - maybe it was here) I saw a "new" innovation. I was immediately drawn to it so I built one for the trap shed.

works, too.. There are actually 8 in there..

damn, I hope the world doesn't beat a path here..

Dang. That's pretty cool. I need to build one of those in dads barn up home. I bet he would get a kick out of that.

Put peanut butter on the cork on the end. The bottle is on a angle. The rag helps them get up on top and they start walking out to the smell of the peanut butter and they slip on the smooth glass and into the bucket they go...

I just saw the screw into the towel. That helped.

    Thank you.

Water or antifreeze? Does it matter? What about Norway rats?

I personally would not put antifreeze out. Other animals could get into it. Just put 6 inches of water in the bucket. If it is above freezing they will drown, if it's below freezing they will freeze...

I'm thinking there's something that smells good in that cork. Once the little SOB's step off the towel they can't get a grip on the glass bottle and "splash"!

PETA might beat a path to your door if they see that picture

You do do about the same for rats too. Notch both side of a five gallon bucket and cur a piece of coat hanger long enough to straddle it. cut a circle of cardboard smaller than the bucket mouth and run the coat hanger thru it. Put six inches of water in the bucket and put a smear of peanut butter on the cardboard. when the rat jumps up on the cardboard it spins and drops him in the water.

Yep - Cap'n's got it (and CD). It would work for rats but you'd probably need a longer bottle or a shorter rag - and possibly a bigger bucket. Anti-freeze is great (and it keeps the mice from stinking) but I don't use it because I have a dog that runs loose. I may actually pick up some of that "non-toxic" kind just in case we ever have winter.

Ahhh.. we need a "better mouse trap" .. we could build a wooden tripod four feet off the ground to support the wine bottle. Mouse runs up support - goes after peanut butter .. I wasn't kidding about the whole "fascination" thing.

I was thinking the same thing. Really all you would need is a stand 6 inches taller than you bucket and a good walk board up to that level and you would catch ever mouse in the barn.

I have an awesome idea for a mouse trap. All you need is a donkey, a pinata, and a suit of armor.....

I can build that same trap with 2 midgets, one Nun and a handful of dimes.

I can build one with BBPs attitude, capn's height and Jimmy's pecker. I call it the short angry limp trap.

I've been working on a snappy comeback. But I keep cracking up and can't complete the thought. And how is it I have a short attitude?
