Catching a Tarpon on a regular medium action baitcaster with 20lb mono was the highlight of my fishing career. Over a few hours that thing pulled us thru stuff that got us stuck on sandbars, vegetation in the motor that the guide had to jump out of the boat to fix, transfer to another boat because the guide was a dumbass, then finally got it on the boat for a picture and had hold it boatside to revive it while two of us watched for sharkes while one of us held the fish.
Good times!

Where did you catch your tarpon at Len?
Key West... flats fishin'. We had gone on a diving trip down there and my buddy and are were in 30 feet of water. Multiple large schools of HUGE Tarpon kept swimming circles around us... one huge Tarpon broke from the circle, swam right up to me and my buddy (we were sitting on the bottom watching the action) and stopped about 18" from our faces and just stared us down. When we came up a few minutes later the conversation went like this:
Me: "we need to book a...
Him: "I'm calling as soon as we get to the dive boat"
Me: "I'm pretty sure the wives were planning to..."
Him: "fuck 'em, we're going tonight"

I guess it's pretty clear why we're friends

I just landed one guide says will go between 180 and 200. Fought him for over an hour. Incredible fight. Cleared the water 8 feet or more three times. No still pictures but I think we might have some video on the guides phone. Will try to post something tonight.

Just put my third to the boat. I'm done for the day! This one was 100 pound class. But there is SOME story to tell with this last one. My phone memory is full and the guide has some video on his phone of the last two. He says he will email it tonight and I'll try to post here.
