Heading to Lake Sakakawea after work for our first attempt this year at catching some chinook salmon. My fingers are crossed that I go to sleep tomorrow night "hearing" the ringing of the salmon bells and still feeling like I'm on the water, even though I know it is all in my head.

Beautiful fish! I picked up a couple of springs last month when we were up north and really notice the difference in colour between those and their fresh water cousins. The saltys were BRIGHT chrome with dark green backs but very little back spotting. Pretty fish.

I miss salmon fishing. We used to go up to Northern Michigan every fall and catch Coho. That was a lot of fun. When I first went with my Dad, you could still snag them. It was quite an adventure pulling one in that you snagged in the tail.
Gotta put salmon on my list of fish to catch. Looks like a lot of fun!

It truly is a lot of fun when you catch one of those little finned torpedoes but until that point you are simply on a boat ride with the only things to do are: relax, eat, drink, visit, look at the sights, and make sure you don't run afoul of other salmon fishermen or go too shallow, running the cannonballs aground.
I can't imagine what it would be like hooking into those 30, 40, 50, and 60-lb or bigger brutes in Alaska.
