    Got him, Sky.....

I was tearing down another beaver dam, early this morning, and this cottonmouth ran out....I smelled him, before I saw him....he slithered over my boot, then made the mistake of stopping to turn around to look at me....2 rounds from the 10/22 sent him to that snake den in the sky.

I think that's a job I'd hold off in until colder weather.

I'm sorta like Cap, when it comes to snakes.....they really don't scare me, as long as I can see or smell them, and got a big stick or firearm in my hand....however, unlike Cap, I'm NOT gonna pick 'em up, and play with them....unless they are headless.

However, I do get rather leary, walking to a turkey blind in the dark, and hear rattling, and can't determine which direction the rattling is coming from....even worse, is when the rattling is coming from several directions at once....that'll make your butthole pucker.

Same here, I can smell a cottonmouth and a copperhead both most of the times before I see them. Rattlesnakes sometimes.

This is all very odd to me. We can't really smell any snakes out here. Well actually after you kill a rattle snake they have a distinct but mild smell. You certainly couldn't smell it as you are walking along though. I can't imagine walking in the dark and smelling a water moccasin and not have any idea where it is at. That would cause absolute terror in my mind.

Cottonmouths have a musky kind of smell that definitely makes you pay attention!
