    Tragic C130 crash here....

The C130 crashed about 2 miles from our house, this afternoon.....we could hear and feel the impact in our house, then went outside, and saw the fireball and smoke.....ya'll send up some prayers for these Marines.

The young man, who farms the land next door to me, was outside on his farm, and heard the same loud boom up in the sky, then actually witnessed the plane spiraling into the ground.....evidently, the plane suffered some type of in-air explosion because the debris field covered 5 square miles.

Cap, the flight originated from up your way at Cherry Point, NC.

So sad ... I spent many, MANY hours in a C-130 back in the day. My brother was a Load Master on a C-130. We hooked up a few times during a few of his supply missions to 'Nam. It's a real workhorse, but something went tragically wrong here.

Sad news indeed. That plane has been a safe and reliable workhorse for decades. It will be interesting to hear what comes of the accident investigation.

They are indeed safe workhorse aircraft.....however, I did almost get sucked outta the azz end of a C-130 back in 1970.....the main rear door just flopped open about 2 minutes after take-off.....if we hadn't been hooked in to a cable on the sidewall of the fuselage, I'm pretty sure about a dozen of us woulda been MIA.

I've flown on them too, and its the closest thing to an airborne pulpwood truck that you could possibly imagine. But they've done their duty so often we take them for granted.

I got to see the YC-17 cargo plane go through its paces one day when I was at MacDill in Florida. 'YC' means its still in the testing phase. Now they're retiring them. Do I feel old?

Very Sad, I know just where Cherry Point is. It's out on/near the coast. I fish in Havelock all the time.
I can only imagine what the family is going through.

Man, that sucks. What a tragic way to go.

Man, this tore me up, this morning.....David Weeks, one of our Patriot Guard Rider members played taps out at the KC-130 crash scene, this morning, just as I was passing thru.

I get 30 minutes. Not enough time to do anything. We can come up here Saturday if you want.
