Thanksgiving Trout Fest 2017 + A Surprise Fish!

I had a few days off for the Thanksgiving and took full advantage of not being stuck at work.

Check out the brilliant colors on this rainbow! Not the biggest of the day, but definitely the prettiest.

Up next this big-eyed fatty. (The fish, not me.)

Another gift from the river. I was using a brand new jig that Kit's Tackle had sent me. I still don't know the name of it. I just know it works!

Last but not least. I got this big surprise. Now granted, those lake whitefish they catch over by Flathead run bigger and are a whole different critter. This is a mountain whitefish (read generally small-sized) and as far as I know, it's a pretty good sized one. I'm no expert on mountain whitefish, but I looked up the state record and this one wasn't a whole lot smaller. Sure did put up a fight! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving week.

Since I'll be trying my hand at trout fishing this spring, I was informed in no uncertain terms by my wife that I was not leaving her at home when I did. So it looks like I've got a trout partner whether I like it or not

Are those colors a seasonal deal, Troy?

Man, you seem to catch what would be a fish of a life time around here every time you go out.

Que, hope you have as much fun, or more, as my daughter and I did.
BBP, I think it is mostly genetics, but there is some pre-spawning going on and it does intensify the colors.
Chicken Dinner, in reality that mountain whitefish is a fish of a lifetime for its species. I've never seen bigger and doubt I will ever catch a bigger one or even an equivalent one.
