I gots a sale this weekend and they have a couple of "Knights Templar" swords that look kinda cool. What's the story on these things? Worth fooling with?

List it as a Tyler's sword.
It should bring you some bucks

I'm very interested in them, Thump....there's prolly not a particular story about them, as they are used for ceremonial purposes in every Masonic Lodge....as Cap said, they are Tiler's swords....I assume swords can be shipped....if so, I would be interested in purchasing them from you, unless they sell astronomically high at the sale....I've already got two of them, but I just sorta like the looks of those.
What day is the sale???....you could text me the prices, and I can decide, then.
Thanks

One is being auctioned as I speak ... it closes in about 3-4 minutes. I'm gonna watch it and see what happens.

I'm interested as well. I "inherited" one from my Great Uncle. I'd never sell it, but am interested in what it's worth. BM, if this is the sort of thing a Lodge would like returned vs. kept as a family heirloom by a non-Masonic heathen, let me know.

Well, that auction for a plain looking sword (no case) just closed for $115, but it supposedly had "issues".
I've researched these things a bit more I guess as I still have no clue what they're worth! I suppose it all depends on the sword as the one's I've seen so far have SOLD for as little as $50 up to $1000! I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be buying these things since I'm clueless as to how to appraise them. As for this weekend, I've been to this guy's sales a couple of times, but I don't really know these people and can't even remember how their prices run.

Example:
This one sold (sword and scabbard) for $45.
And this one sold for $941 and this same guy sold another one that looks just like it for $734.
But this one sold for $60!
This one for $150.

I think I could prolly tell the difference in quality if I could hold them in my hands and do a side X side comparison of a "cheap" one and a "nice" one ... but right now I think I'd be a bit uncomfortable making a decision.

No problem, Thump....I was just wanting a couple of them to place on the wall, above my Masonic apron.....maybe next time.

I'd hate to pay $500 for a $50 sword ... but then, I wouldn't mind paying $50 for a $500 sword!

Are you going to the sale Thump? If so you and Eddie just agree on a price for them and see what they want? Who knows you may get there and they are marked 15 bucks each? That would certainly be a good wall hanger. If you get there and they want 50 bucks each that might not be worth the gamble.

You're probably right, Larke. I'm probably the first man in my family not to belong in at least 150 years. I'll probably talk to my father about it when the kids are a little older. But, I'm just stretched real thin right now being a Scout leader and coaching sports two out of three seasons.

Okay, Thump, here's my max offer for all three....$150 bucks, plus shipping....I paid $35 each for the ones I've got.
However, if you don't want to even fool with them, then that's no problem, whatsoever.
I don't really need the darn things, but will buy them at that price.

Ummm, I think there are only TWO swords Edward. Two swords and two sheaths (is that the right term?) plus one has the leather case (I assume that's the third item)?

Ok, I musta mis-read the pics....make that $100 bucks , plus shipping for the two.
(P.S. You need to vacuum your carpet.)

Ha ha ha! You goofy old geezer! That ain't MY carpet ... I haven't even been to the sale yet.

If we all threw our problems in a pile, and you saw everyone else's problems-- you'd take yours back.
Don't be offerin' that dufe no hundred dollars. He might get em for 50 cent each.

Strange thing about the masons stuff, recently a guy died from my home town (500 pop) and I knew him so so. Well his masons accomplishments in the obits were too long to read. I never knew any of that, and I knew him all my life, I thought he was just a old retired guy who fished a lot. Almost like he was world renowned .....
